Junior Eurovision takes over Golden Stag

26.May

The traditional Golden Stag music festival is not going to take place this year, because its main organizer, the National Romanian Television decided they have other more important projects. And as they would rather make only one thing but make it good, they decided the Junior Eurovision Contest in December is more important and all energies should be focused on that.

Now, I am not a great fan of the soft pop music that is usually displayed at the Golden Stag, but this festival had, apart from a long tradition in Romania, quite some interesting stars over the years, like Ray Charles, Joe Cocker and Kylie Minogue among other.

On the other hand, I personally regard the Eurovision as more a political event – countries voting for one another….what has this got to do with music? But then again, we’re talking about the National Romanian Television, which still has some good politics inside and probably this is more important for them.

As the Golden Stag 2006 is still a very uncertain project, the official website decided to post some info about the 2007 edition instead of the 2006 one :)

As a new Brasovian, I am deeply disappointed to read this post. Will no one else step-in to sponsor it? Did the TV station at least attempt to find a replacement, as a good faith gesture?

Despite free tickets, I skipped the Joe Cocker performance as I don’t care for his work. Now, Ray, on the other hand, would have been something like meeting Jesus.

Well, as the National Romanian Television (TVR) is the official organizer of the Golden Stag, there is little one can do about it. According to the latest news, TVR publicly declared that this year edition is going to be skipped. Here is some “official” news about it, unfortunatelly only in Romanian: http://www.presaonline.com/stiri/tvr-a-anulat-cerbul-de-aur-26183.html

And the official press release on TVR’s website: http://www.tvr.ro/org/comunicate/crp_comunicate.php?id=855
